Sweet jesus the EU doesn’t really prevent State Aid. Every other fuckin country with an industrial base to protect gets around the rules. They allow a fair bit of wiggle room re “national interest”. Britain chooses not to through insular idiot ignorance or ideology. Berba’s been making this point far more lucidly since Corbyn started with this Lexit shibboleth back in the longlongago.Last edited by Lang Spoon; 08-12-2018, 17:51.

Corbyn doesn't need to be tougher in negotiations since he's not a racist like Theresa may. Her sole aim in her political career, first as Home Secretary and now as Prime Minister , has been to stop foreigners coming to the UK and to deport legally or illegally any she can . Labour wants to retain many of those aspects of EU law which May is so keen to end.

Corbyn caves (and loses credibility with voters) or Socialism in One Country Shit Brexit. And promptly loses the next election as the economy tanks. Which is why Labour should have stopped playing the cake and six tests dance long before now.

Unless there is an acceptance of FoM which is the hill most Brexiters will die for, there is no point talking about changing the WA.
I suspect a number of senior Brexiters would secretly be happy if Art 50 was whitdrawn, economic shitstorm avoided and endless reserves of 'betrayal' political capital until such a time when they can pull out without compromises..

Campbell and co would ensure Labout lose the People's Vote.
Also, if there's a general election, don't you get Flint and Umunna and all back again, with exactly the same problem?

There's 19% of people in favour of an option that has already been shot down, and I'm not sure where the 6% who want a second parlimentary vote are going to go when that is defeated. That's fully a quarter of those people who are effectively still in play. I wonder what it looks like if you divide these people up.

But it's not a negotiation. The UK is being given a series of choices. It doesn't matter how tough the UK prime minister is, it doesn't even matter who the prime minister is. They will still be asked "Do you want to accept absolutely everything involved in the single market, from FOM to ECJ to adhering to EU laws?" If the answer is not immediately yes, then the next question is "Do you want to accept absolutely everything involved in the Customs union?" and if the answer to that is no, and then they get told to implement the withdrawal agreement, and maybe five or six years down the road they'll agree to something like the FTA that the EU has with canada.

It's really depressing, and I appreciate that Labour are treading a tightrope, but I simply don't trust Corbyn on Brexit.
On the other hand I don't trust any of the Sensibles on anything at all, including Brexit. They'd throw us citizens of nowhere under a bus in an instant if it proved expedient.
