Britain faces a potential €2 billion bill from Brussels after EU investigators found that U.K. authorities turned a blind eye to a massive fraud network that allowed ultra-cheap Chinese goods to flood into Europe.

The EU’s anti-fraud office OLAF, uncovering allegedly one of the biggest fraud rings in its history, concluded that British customs played a central role by repeatedly ignoring warnings to take action over Chinese textiles and footwear pouring into the EU at a tiny fraction of their cost of production.

He was remarkably dignified about it on the radio this morning. Also put the boot into the Brexiter "We won so no one is allowed to do anything but nod and smile on the Remain side, you losers" argument by reminding everyone about how that nice Mr Farage promised to agitate for another referendum.

Also a lovely backhanded compliment about the Brexiteers now rightly being in charge of negotiations.

He also said he'd never met May, barring "collegiate meetings".

Boris Johnson has told the BBC that Britain should reject any EU demands for a £50bn "exit bill" and follow the example of former PM Margaret Thatcher.
It has been reported that EU negotiator Michel Barnier has said the UK must continue to pay into the EU until 2020.

Mr Johnson said it was "not reasonable" for the UK to "continue to make vast budget payments" once it left the EU.

He cited Mrs Thatcher's success at the 1984 Fontainebleau Summit, when she threatened to halt payments to the EU.

"I think we have illustrious precedent in this matter, and you will doubtless recall the 1984 Fontainebleau Summit in which Mrs Thatcher said she wanted her money back, and I think that is exactly what we will get," he told BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg in BBC Two's Brexit: Britain's Biggest Deal.

Toyota have announced they're investing £240m but say crucial we keep current access terms. Sounds like it can be pulled if that doesn't happen.

Greg Clark is one to watch. Relations with car makers are surprisingly good and I expect he's promised that it'll all be OK on the access front. He's either got the nod from May, or he's out on a limb and is about to be turned on by the frothers who think Philip Hammond is a secret lefty federalist.

Brilliant. £20m of de facto state aid for Toyota to do what they'd probably have done anyway if we'd not Brexited. And likely won't do if we leave the Customs Union.

I know a few Brexit outriders made a lot of new trade deals, but immigration is the only thing most of them really care about. If we were allowed, we could park ourselves in the Customs Union and let Brexit pensioners die off.
