The difficulty of proving that beyond a reasonable doubt in a normal criminal court would be extremely high.

It becomes exponentially more difficult in a political proceeding.

I can't say I think the first impeachment trial of a Supreme Court Justice in 215 years (current batting rate 0.0) seems like a good box to open with the Republican party in the mood it has been for the past decade.

I think they'd be better off putting something in Clarence Thomas's coffee.

They did that with Scalia and then still screwed it all up.

His acting an arse on Twitter wasn't the original concern. He has subordinates for the other, normally more important stuff.

I've only just heard about the story that Russia was paying the Taliban to kill US soldiers in Afghanistan to which Trump responded by being nice to Putin. That seems...quite big news in any normal time.

Such are the times in which we live.

Though it is resonating among GOP foreign policy and military types in a way that most of his atrocities do not.

Fox, of course, are presenting it as an argument between Trump and the NYT without actually mentioning the substance of the allegation at all.

Both Gorsuch and Kavanaugh vote against the President (Thomas and Alito dissent)

                                Thomas and Alito?

Kavanaugh took the chance to show he's partisan on everything except Trump's personal interests; and/or is thinking beyond November.

What can Vance do with those tax details that would hurt Trump before November?

Have Thomas and/or Alito voted against Trump on any issue?

                                  EDIT:

                                    Plenty, you would hope.
This ought to be the beginning of the end for the racist prick, shouldn't it...?

Once one of Gorsuch, Roberts or Kavanaugh voted against the Prez, it makes political sense for the others to join in. It makes them look less partisan when their vote it no longer meaningful.

The large number of 5-4 decisions illustrated the limits of that theory

They kicked the Congressional subpoena case back down to the lower courts for failure to have sufficiently considered the separation of powers issues.

I do keep wondering if there’s nothing of note in these tax returns. That they’ve been set up as a wild goose chase for years, and when it turns out that there’s no bombshell, that looks like a bombshell in itself and perhaps helps Trump.

The New York Times reporting grounded on Mary Trump's cooperation indicates that there are plenty of tax crimes that will be illuminated by the returns.

But none of this will happen before November.

Hmm. His mentor, Roy Cohn, was well known for never paying taxes — nor even having a bank account or credit card — and he spent the last months of his repulsive life dealing with the IRS. Taxes tend to be what screw most grifters and thugs in the end, you can't kill them and they never go away.

That sounds like a deep, long strategy. Remember what Mary says....there's literally no strategy to anything. It's all about fear and reaction. He doesn't want you to see his taxes because all the evidence is in there. Nothing more. He's not playing 3-dimentional chess, he's playing checkers, poorly.
