It’s going to be hilariously fucking funny when this ends up with Iran having a viable nuclear weapon, forever ending the Blob’s fantasy of invading Iran.

Can there be, is there, a solution for the Pelosi-Squad stand-off? The left tearing itself apart again...

If Pelosi is "left" in any meaningful sense then we are truly fucked

More accurately the Democrats tearing themselves apart again.

It's pretty routine stuff in a pre-election year though isn't it? By next Summer they'll all be playing kissy-face

It doesn't seem like a big deal. It helps blue dog/centrist Democrats define themselves as "reasonable" by being opposed to AOC. It helps leftish Democrats like AOC who have no meaningful Republican opponents prevent any insurgency against them and also helps them get their agenda in the public eye.

Sure. It's a way of taking the electoral temperature while fighting for pole position in the party's future

I'm not even sure it is that it is that. It is theatre that plays well in each side's districts.

I suppose all public political activity is in the category of performance these day.

However the AOC squad vs Pelosi dust up isn't in the same category as the current UK Labour party's ructions.

Not even close, largely as a result of the large differences in the systems

Yeah - they aren't really the same kind of thing at all, the Dems and Labour

                          No surprise here then.

                            "racially-charged". Mealy mouthed wankers.

Pelosi has called the tweet 'xenophobic', which is problematic. The targets are not foreigners, although the term xenophobia can be used for treating US-born people as foreigners, which is probably what she means. But it is mainly problematic because she has used it to dodge the proper word - racism. Trump's tweet can only be read as you're only American if you're white.

Do you really think it’s good that Fox is repeating Pelosi’s slurs?

I suspect some of them think that's acceptable as well.

What a disgusting object he is. His mere existence tarnishes the collective soul of humanity.

It also shows further that Birtherism was a fake concern because we now know that Trump thinks being born here is immaterial to whether you belong here or should be allowed to serve in any of the three strands of power: executive (Obama), judiciary ("Mexican" judge), legislature.

Despite having come to expect the worst from the Republicans, even I was a little taken aback by the comment from Pence's chief of staff yesterday that Trump couldn't possibly have made a racist tweet because Trump wasn't racist and we know Trump's not racist because he has one Chinese American who happens to be married to the Senate Majority leader, running one department in his administration.

                                        I dunno.

Given the current political math in Congress, it seems quite a reasonable thing for the House to do.

A key element in the Democrats winning 40 seats in the midterms was their success in peeling off Trump voters (primarily suburban women) who may have benefited from the tax cuts but are troubled by the racism, misogyny and cruelty.

Of course this is red meat for his base, but he can't win with just his base.

Well, the next election hangs on five or six states, doesn't it? Let's hope the Dems start making inroads in those,

I always disagree with you on this kind of thing, but think that it is because we inhabit different geographic worlds.

I would like to think making AOC the face of the party would backfire on him, racism or not. It's not like the party has any better faces to put forward.

Meh fuck it, get it out in the open, get them to say it in public, and get out your own vote, and keep hammering home to latinos, and the occasional lost black soul who vote republican that the republicans want them to go home.

He's focusing on getting his vote out rather than the middle ground because that worked in 2016. But AOC would help get the Dems many of the Greens voters from that year as well as some women and male persons of color who are experiencing buyers' remorse.

My worry is that the incumbent in recent elections has tended to get votes just for being the incumbent no matter whom the fuck he is.

Also, how are relations between AOC and the Dem nominee going to play out?

Who IS a unifying politician? And bollocks to "unifying" if it means chucking immigrants and people of colour under the bus to achieve it.
