    Trump's Card

Why doesn't the US form an alliance with Iran? It's the closest thing to a democracy for nearly a thousand miles in any direction
Would be helpful if they hadn't first helped to destroy Iranian democracy.

Iran is an "axis of evil" country in the mindset that has been ingrained in American culture. Facts are not going to change that block prejudice.

How do the Saudis keep avoiding blowback for 9/11? Imagine if the same amount of evidence implicated Iran.

The average American doesn't understand our own internal politics, let alone Iran's, but we might change our attitude toward Iran if they had a revolution or voted in somebody that could be credibly sold as a "reformer," but that's not likely to happen soon, I suppose. It's still a theocracy, in large part.

Hardcore Islamophobes don't like Saudi Arabia, nor does anyone on the left, but the militarists, oil people, and self-styled "realists" insist that's an important ally for the US. The sort of people who really like Trump just think they're all a bunch of towelheads that should be wiped off the earth, but don't have much understanding of the various factions, national identities, conflicting loyalties, Sunni vs Shiite, etc, in the middle east.

The Patriots are claiming that they had 56 players last time and 54 this time and that those pictures aren't comparable.

What a thoroughly hateable franchise. Not the individual players, so much, but the whole Masshole-Kraftian axis and their shitty sub-USFL uniforms. Growing up, I never could have imagined the lowly Patriots would ever be any good, let let alone an evil empire-type deal. The NFL has just JTS.

Yeah, for those that didn't see it, the Patriots sent out tweets basically to make sure that Trump didn't look bad. Thoroughly embarrassing and bootlicking.

It would solve a lot of problems in Iraq, and would reduce reliance on the Saudi's who are a large part of the problem.
Saudi Arabia is fucking awful. But Sunnis severely outnumber Shia in the Middle East, and a whole world of shit would rain down on the US if it backed the country who does seem their most natural ally in the region.

And never mind the kinipshun fit that Turkey and the vile Gulf States would have, what would Israel say?
Iran becoming a US client in the middle east would probably suit Israel just fine. Israel would see itself as the Gateway to Iran, given the extent of the co-operation between the govts when it has come to sanctions busting, and keeping all that Shah-Era american hardware flying. The US Seemed to get along pretty well with the Shia in Iraq, and there's no reason why the US couldn't defuse a lot of the tensions by also taking on Iran as a client state, and resolving a lot of the issues between it and its neighbours. You can tidy up a lot of petty bullshit by holding up the carrot of becoming much richer. If the US was to act as guarantor of the shia minorities in other countries, the US could get Iran to reign in Hezbollah, and stop fucking around.

Iran is a country with an enormous number of young people who are nearly all underemployed at best. The Appetite for engagement with the rest of the world must be enormous at this point.

It's not like Israel doesn't have a history of supporting Iran. While the US was selling arms to Iraq in the Iran Iraq war Israel was selling their own American weapons to Iran, thereby making arms manufacturers wealthy and ensuring greater levels of death among those nasty brown people

Aye under the table Israel have kept playing footsie with Iran as if the Shah was still around. But publicly... doubt Netenyahu would be averse to a poll boosting symbolic unauthorized strike on Iran if he thought the US wouldn't punish him for it. And then the world cracks open.

The US were indeed friendly to the Shia in Iraq in the main, but their tolerance for the sectarian kleptocracy that the Baghdad govt became helped flame the Sunni insurgency, and from that the Islamic State geezers we know and love. Messy business, those client states.

There's an open door policy for cunts at the White House this week as Palin took talentless hat rack Kid Rock and sadly not dead Ted Nugent along. The only thing more repellent than Nugent's views is his execrable back catalogue.

The figures for heroin addiction amongst young poor men in Tehran are just horrifying, a total waste of life. If sanctions end there might at least be some jobs. An acquaintance once swore to me that among the rich boozers in the posh suburbs, meth is the drug of choice as the poor are all on coke as well. Which says it all about drug fashion idiocy and social class, but can't be right surely. Unless coca is grown in quiet and pliably corrupt Iranian mountain areas that shit would be mad pricey by the time it was imported there.

Trump has a tricky week ahead on the budget where he'll need all the congressional support he can muster so can't look cravenly pro-Russian at this point, even leaving aside his various policy spins over Syria.

Is the pro-Trump electorate truly that dumb that it would say "Yeah, it's dose Democrats that stopped us building da wall."
