Unfortunately, it's looking like the Democrat, Ossoff, is going to just miss getting 50% in the Georgia 6 special election, which is superficially a shame because he's probably marginally less likely to win in a run-off.

But if he doesn't win, the fact that he'll end up with a total somewhere around 48% will still freak the shit out of house Republicans, given that Tom Price held this seat with 20%+ of the vote. And there's still a chance for him in the run-off.

Suddenly, fear of losing an election may be just as strong as fear of losing a primary for perhaps 100 or so congressmen.

Which may be why Tom Cotton, one of the most rabid anti-Obamacare members of the Senate, just promised to protect the coverage of the 300K plus Arkansasans who were recently covered by its Medicaid expansion.

They are really struggling to Square the circle when it comes to domestic policy beyond demonising people of colour.

Why doesn't the US form an alliance with Iran? It's the closest thing to a democracy for nearly a thousand miles in any direction, (It's just a more violent version of 1950's ireland) and they could be convinced to stop fucking around in return for becoming a fully engaged part of the global economy. It would solve a lot of problems in Iraq, and would reduce reliance on the Saudi's who are a large part of the problem.

Saudi Arabia is fucking awful. But Sunnis severely outnumber Shia in the Middle East, and a whole world of shit would rain down on the US if it backed the country who does seem their most natural ally in the region.

And never mind the kinipshun fit that Turkey and the vile Gulf States would have, what would Israel say?
