she lost faith in the calibre of the Reagan conservatives still left in the party and realized that the base wanted a racist demagogue.
Took her long enough to figure that out.

      And Reagan wasn't?

The laundering of Reagan is disgusting, The Dollop’s two part episode on Reagan (featuring Patton Oswalt) makes it clear that Reagan was Trump before Trump.

I stand corrected on that. Yes Reagan was a racist ("welfare queens"; holding a rally in the Mississippi county where the three civil rights workers were murdered: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reagan...ghts%22_speech) but I don't think racism was 90% of his appeal as it is with Trump. Reagan was mainly about making economic greed, social Darwinism and foreign wars respectable again. He wasn't as openly racist in terms of promoting white supremacist violence and it wasn't his only tune.

They are the same mate, Reagan is just more careful with his language but 100 times more effective as a politician (which is why he was much more dangerous).

Did anyone else notice that he used the Pocahontas jibe against Warren again in the North Carolina speech? I thought at that point I heard a few sounds of disapproval from the mostly fawning audience, but this may be wishful thinking.

It is the only way he refers to Senator Warren

He also said that H.Clinton was a word beginning SL...but then claimed he wasn't continuing out of respect or some other BS.

Have there been any speeches at the GOP Convention that concur with Carlson's defence of vigilante murder here?

Fox is increasing caught in a pincer between its jittery sponsors and its anchors getting increasingly explicit in their racism and defence of fascism. I'm not sure how that will play out.

On Reagan - I was listening to a podcast the other day that discussed the Patty Hearst/Tanya/SLA thing. Part of the SLA's ransom demand was that the Hearsts feed poor people in the Bay Area and they acceded to that. Governor Reagan commented at a private function, 'it's just too bad we can't have an epidemic of botulism'.

The Estate has already complained, and it would certainly be actionable under copyright infringement.

There are a several artists who've already objected to Trump using their work without permission. They include Elton John, REM, Adele, Guns N Roses, the Rolling Stones, Pharrell, Queen, Aerosmith, Earth Wind and Fire and the estates of Tom Petty and Prince. Basically he doesn't give a shit.

That’s what the article I copied in my original post was about. Probably would have been easier if I’d just stated that instead!

Let's be honest...'he' has zero involvement in the choice of rally tunes. Republicans have been doing this every four years since Reagan used Born In The USA.
