    WSC Question

Does anyone know the source of "The People" image? Is it an original illustration or was it pulled from somewhere way back in the day?

That image, although with a different writing (FC Kosovo) on the top, was used by some anarchist collective in Gva to advertise a game of football in the streets of the city, back in the early 90's. I have a small doubt it was that exact image but if not, it was very, very similar.

ah, thought someone might notice. yes, it would appear our lovely mascot was originally an egg-chaser. when it was re-drawn for the magazine masthead the ball was made rounder for a 'captain leading out his team' feel...

"Captain leading out his team"? I always thought he was taking his ball home!

Haha, at risk of making myself look a fool that reading of it always made sense to me - as in, The People have had enough of what's happening to their game, they're taking their ball home.

                    WSC Question

On the original cover, 'The People' seem to be doing one in the aftermath of the Peterloo massacre, rather than enjoying a game of rugger.

Possibly there wasn't much difference in those days.

That's technopop's number one playboy aristocrat, Mr Florian Schneider.

Ralf and Florian look a bit like Spitting Image's two Davids on that cover, with Hutter somewhat unfairly cast in the Steel role.

I was thinking minor grifter at a american racetrack in the 50s, or one of those old sportswriter types who turn up in boxing documentaries.
