A dear departed friend had six greyhounds, all kept at home and loved as pets, and one of which she raced. She was a member of, and volunteered for a greyhound rescue charity. But she was in a tiny minority.

It's a good day, and I just hope the transition is well managed.

Horse racing isn't inherently abusive. But in reality many horses are mistreated or killed for just being economically inconvenient.

Not just the horses, jockeys are treated like animals as well by owners and trainers, probably lower down the chain than the horses. I know stud farms bring in tons of moolah, but the Irish obsession with the gee gees is something that makes me feel a total foreigner. JP McManus and similar tax dodgers should be hung from lamp posts, not lionized.

Also, if anyone wants to do a search on google for 'greyhound ears cut off', you'll be able to take your pick from the many pages of links that result, according to whatever you consider most authoritative or least biased or whatever. (Racing Greyhounds in GB have to have a tattoo as identification. These routinely are in the ears. Thus, people cut their ears off before killing them.)
