I'm still not seeing how this works. Is it:

"Vote for us, and we will start the Exit process", or

"Vote for us, now that we have started the process"

To which the EU is going to be saying "Why are you asking for another mandate, you want out so stop jerking us around".

And candidate selection for a single issue election is going to be a nightmare - a purge, even.

The Brexit vote was the General Election, in effect, between two factions of the Tory party in one faction was supported by Labour and the SNP and the other by UKIP and the NI nationalists.

The EU can't _make_ the UK trigger the article 50 notice. I'm pinning my hope on the idea that this lack of actual thing happening, combined with the dominant European Union political outcome of 'fudge it' means this could drag on.

Admittedly, the only way a pre-actual Brexit 2nd referendum could be won would be with ed meat on migration, something like a revision of EU free movement rules. Which might actually be a worse outcome.

But without free movement there is no EU, and the EU would not throw out that sacred principle just to keep the UK in.

Not necessarily. I would assume non-incumbent parties would always like to take a chance.
Well, it would permanently destroy their credibility if they didn't. You can't really be an opposition and support the government carrying on for another 4 years.

Please let their next PM be the asshole on the tripwire as he'll even spilt his own party.
Especially when he's caught lying as usual.

While she seems the "logical" choice, why would she want to take charge of an economy in free-fall? I propose this TCN:

                        with his Chancellor:

Lacklustre leadership left exposed by declining personal performance. Replaced by Mike Brearley in an overnight coup after a Lords debacle.

That's kind of a separate thing, though. Any opposition regardless of ideological stripe would be fucked if they said "We'd rather not have a general election, carry on as you were."

Tory nominations close Thursday. So I guess there will be Round One soon afterwards - next Tuesday probably. We'll know both candidates for the membership ballot by the second week in July.

According to the Grauniad, Johnson would call a GE whereas Theresa May could decide to maintain the government of which she has already been a minister. I guess the members are therefore choosing on the basis of whether they'd like a GE or not, which in turn might depend on whether Corbyn is still Labour leader when they vote.

In tragic news, George Osborne has ruled himself out of the running.

He's now waiting for a call from Corbyn.

Depends if you find continually trying to extend state surveillance into every aspect of a citizens life to be a redeeming point.

Even compared to the standard set by most parliamentarians, Boris Johnson strikes me as one of the least trustworthy people I have ever seen.

Osborne ruling himself out is amazing. The man's been lauded for 6 years as the most political Chancellor of modern times, more so than Brown. A man driven by ensuring that when the succession came, he'd be in the box seat. And overnight, it was over., and it wasn't anything to do with him. It's like being the 4th leg in the relay and seeing the man on 3rd leg step outside your lane.
