I went to a talk last night by a Palestinian olive farmer who is part of their fair trade organisation. They sell olive oil and dates and a few other things. Shipping internationally means the government backs off slightly when the farmers protest about land bring taken.
I've been involved in my local FT shop for 20 years now and hearing from the producers always makes me feel humble and a bit embarrassed about my first world problems.
So anyway, if you get the chance, do buy a fair trade product if you don't normally. Or if you do buy one normally, maybe buy an extra one. Cheers.
