    International Women's Day

Big up the OTF woman crew. Represent.

Shout out to my Mam and sister, who not only have to deal with their own shit, but the shit thrown upon them by their families.

And a special thought for my Grandma who I miss more than ever. She dealt with her shit, her family's shit, the shit of strangers, and still had time to bake a perfect egg and bacon pie. Heroic.

I think it's nice that we let half the world's population have a whole day for themselves.

Shout-out to European Border Agency Frontex for showing us that women can participate in the mass slaughter of vulnerable refugees every bit as enthusiastically as men.

ps, thanks for the thought EIM. I must I admit I don't really deal with a lot of shit, comparatively.

The shit was my family specific really. Couldn't comment on anyone else.

Fussb - I saw a Facebook page for a cocktail bar advertising cheap drinks and suggesting men might want to take their girlfriend out for a Cosmo to celebrate IWD and to not forget the flowers.

                International Women's Day

My lodger bought me flowers last week, and dinner the last two days.

I'd like someone to buy me a Cosmo tonight but as I'm going to a cocktail bar tomorrow and am on heavy painkillers today (did my back yesterday) I can wait.

I used to enjoy Russian IWDs, you get an odd number of carnations and are congratulated.

Booze and flaaaars, what's not to like?

I do enjoy reading Alexandra Kollontai in 1920 on IWD: Mr. Bourgeois, Sir – It Is Too Late!

I've spent IWD being really quiet, so I'm sure TLMG has at least something to celebrate.

It took until midday before I first heard someone say "when is it 'International Men's Day'?" today.

ES got in before me, but it's November 19th, apparently.

There was some footage on the news earlier of the Greek and Turkish Prime Ministers handing out long stemmed roses to a crowd. The last public figure I saw doing that was Al Green in concert.

                                      International Women's Day

Sharing this, from a woman comrade on Facebook:

I’m too sad and weary to generate a power-positive type international women’s day post. I’ve had some pretty shitty experiences recently.

In my lifetime I’ve been groped, grabbed, called a slut, a tease, fat, unattractive. Told I would be hotter if I tried harder. Forced to have sex and anal sex when I didn’t want to. Had unpleasurable and uncomfortable sex because it was easier than not doing so and because I was trying to be nice. Had my head held down while performing oral sex (tip: NO WOMEN LIKE THIS EVER).

Had sex with men twice my age, to have them tell their peers and my employer exactly what we’d done sexually. Had male socialist-activists twice my age grope and harass me. Had male GPs sexually harass me or ask me whether I ‘like having abortions’. Had other medical professionals comment on my appearance and my sex-life.

None of these experiences are particular to me, they are COMMONPLACE among my friends. None of these experiences are at the sharp end of oppression, there are very many who have it much worse.

Oppression is an experience that accumulates. When I was younger, I thought I understood women’s oppression: now I know how limited that understanding was. Gender inequalities materialise and entrench through the life-course.

All those who have read this thinking ‘wow she is really angry’ FUCK YOU.

My gender anger freezes my blood. It takes up time and energy I’d rather spend on other things. But it also allows me to know many things. That’s why I’m trying to interrogate and account for it.

Gender anger should not be a secret between friends: everyone needs to know and hear it. Happy International Women’s Day.

                                        That's a pretty depressing read.
                                        Everyone should read that.

Hey girls - you too can aspire to participate in the illegal occupation of Palestine, including (but not limited to) carrying out activities such as arbitrary arrest, torture and extra-judicial killing.

Thankyou IDF for showing that being the racist jackboot of a settler colonial state isn't an activity only for men.

                                            Truly Inspiring!!
