Indubitably a subject of intriguing ethnographic interest, insomuch as its restriction to those of a theatrical profession or nature, and the extreme geographic restriction of said dialect thereby. That the BBC allowed the cant to "hide within plain sight" in the scripts of radio transmissions raises questions as to whether a camp subculture was endemic to the public broadcaster, or whether the decision merely displayed a playful wilfulness to subvert cultural norms through a dash of outre permissiveness?

The BBC didn't know about it, did they? They were civil servants who were employing showbusiness people. It would be like asking George Martin to explain the lyrics of Yellow Submarine.

They just thought that Kenneth Williams was just coming up with funny words.

          Oh, hello, Mr Horne!

          Rambling Syd Rumpo was great.

Actually, most of Round The Horne stands up pretty well, allowing for the passage of time.
