The Irish Republic and its quaint folksy customs

(part 2 of an occasional series)

Note: to be fair, they had nipped across the border to Kesh, Co. Fermanagh for the parade. It's Big Laugherty's home village

The Orange Order are like the Germans- more of a sense of humor than you'd realise.

The Orange Order take over Southport once a year, in early August.

The mother of the same Kardashian fan I mentioned earlier texted her while we were in Vegas 'your granny died last night, LOL'

She thought it meant 'Lots of Love'

          Bless

July 12th (I think unless like this year that's a Sunday, when they come on the 11th instead). There's times I've been into town, not realising it's the day and have come out of the station thinking "The Albert looks busy today..... Weird how many of them have Rangers shirts on....... Oh, it's July 12th". I once ended up in the parade when getting a lift home with a colleague who saw a road closed off and tried to take an alternative route.

It certainly does nothing to disprove my mate's theory that to be in the Orange Order you must not have lips.

Well they are religious maniacs AND from Cavan.

Gusty Spence's grandson Guy is now deputy mayor of BelAir. Seems to have been forgiven for getting pissedski on the flight to Lithuania for last term's Euro success.

Your mate is onto something. "Tight-lipped" is a term I've long used to describe Orangemen and the likes.

I used to have a plate named Orangeman, though some called it Mr. Chips. We had three plates, the others were Big Whitey and Little Whitey. Guess what colours they were.

Red in tooth and claw, judging by the Welfare vote in Parliament yesterday?
