I hope you're all happy, you miserable joy-hating bastards. It's been binning it down all day and will continue to do so for the rest of the day. And probably all week n'all. Just when summer was getting good too.

<nervously holds hands up> Errm, my fault I think. I arrived in England yesterday lunchtime. Coincidence you might say, but I say curse.

It never arrived. Still 30℃ here. How much longer must we suffer this infernal heat?

This is my first day of holiday. In a caravan park. In Weymouth.

So nice of the heatwave to choose today to fuck off. Cheers.

A friend just posted some pictures from last night's revelries at Camp Bestival. Hope she has cleared out before they had to shut it down.

Burying Phoenix under sand? That's a good idea...

If it doesn't happen with this storm, be patient. As Shelley acknowledged, that fate is just a matter of time...

Man, I wish I were in Iceland right now.

Still 41 tonight in gorgeous Evora (Portugal) and 40 in Ecija, between Cordoba and Sevilla. I found myself in that situation or thereabouts there twice before for several nights in Andalucia (daytime temperatures of 40c and nighttime temperatures of 33c) in 1986 and 1995, it's unbearable, you just can't sleep (no air con then except in 4* and palaces). Thankfully I was pissed enough to sleep after nights on the tiles, except for one night in Sevilla (I poured water on my mattress to make it more bearable).

I've been in Aranjuez when the temp has been in the lower mid 40s. It felt more comfortable than London at 30C.

High-polluting vehicles banned from Paris and the region, Lyon and its suburbs, Strasbourg and much of the region and the Isčre starting from tomorrow due to very elevated ozone levels.

I'd gladly settle for Wales' temperatures right now let alone Iceland's. And what's going on in Genoa in that map?

Presumably a duff measuring station or a database error

Nelly’s Moss (South) Lake at Cragside estate today (usually, our dog swims in it. And that’s with the relatively heavy rains of the last 10 days, it was much worse in July I was told today by an NT volunteer, so almost totally dry):

It's been brutally hot in Paphos this week. 34C with a feel of 40C.
                                      Less so in Bromley, apparently.

Just starting tipping it down, with associated thunder and lightning in Stockport.

It was after 8, but everyone's phone did indeed go off with an apocalyptic weather warning this morning.

Hurricane Lane is heading towards the Hawaiian Islands in the next few days.

They are really struggling for names, aren't they?

Here's hoping it turns into Hurricane Lame.

Hurricane Lane sounds like an ocean-based version of Tornado Alley.

They actually repeat the tropical storm names every 7 years, so they don't have to find new ones. They only swap new names into the rotation when a storm kills so many people that it would be insensitive to have another Hurricane Katrina/Maria, etc.
