...and your union reform. It seems to be always forgotten that a union can only call a strike it can' t enforce it. It 's up to the members of that union whether they come in to work or not. And that's what the tories can't stand . The solidarty of strike action.

Fuck Off Sajid Javid
Rail workers voting to strike.
The BBC will be shooting off into its pants. "An early test of strength for the man already seen by some as a British Obama..."
Sadly, that's likely to be true of Chukka Umunna as well.
Don't know if you saw what the horrible shit Javid did before:
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/mar/02/ed-miliband-tories-syria-vote-ukraine
On Saturday night, a number of Conservative MPs linked the "appeasement" of Russia over Syria to its aggression in Ukraine. Sajid Javid, a Treasury minister who is close to George Osborne, said there was a "direct link between Miliband's cynical vote against [the] Syria motion and Russia's actions on Ukraine," adding that this made the Labour leader "completely unfit to lead Britain".
I'd have thought the Tories would have preferred Ed's dad to Sajid's, if anything.

Fuck Off Sajid Javid
So a relatively easy debut for Corbyn's Labour last night in opposing this pernicious bill at its second reading. Good to see members were visibly delighted to be given the chance - prompted by a Tory asking them to declare their interests - to say which unions they were affiliated to.
Some Tories like David Davis may rebel later, but it could be that non-parliamentary action is the only way to defeat this bill.

Britain does not have a problem with strikes says Union mouthpiece, the Financial Times.
Manufacturing, with 2.5m workers had 12 stoppages last year, or a loss of 0.001% of available labour.

I haven't seen any news. How are the BBC and others reporting it? Given that Labour are properly opposing this bill, are they being "balanced" enough to properly reflect the opposition point of view? Or just endlessly quoting the government and big business?

On the subject of labour markets, this is a hoot, by the Institute of Directors.
They've probably got a photo of Sajid Javid up next to the Queen.
Does the UK
still have a
flexible labour
market?
They run into problems when they're forced to quote an international measurement that gives Britain a higher flexibility score than in 1997. Apparently though that's "luck" because the government predicted only 13,000 Eastern EU immigrants a year (they didn't).
A cheery conclusion that makes me think they're cheering on Sajid Javid.
We need a culture change in Government.
The Government pays lip service to labour market flexibility,
but has gradually reduced flexibility through its own policies. By
bringing in so much employment law, ministers need to realise
that they are undermining the UK’s competitiveness and
ultimately their own strategy to boost employment levels.
Regulatory reform of the labour law framework is the key. It is
a mistake to rely on migrant labour as a key source of flexibility.
Migrant labour can dry up. The Government, therefore, needs to:
Scrap all proposals to extend UK employment law.
Resist all current EU employment proposals, even those
that do not change or extend UK law – if UK law is
increasingly underpinned by EU law it will become harder
to adapt and deregulate the UK’s employment law
framework when necessary.
Produce a deregulatory programme that makes hiring
and firing easier.
Ensure that the minimum wage cannot be increased at
a rate that exceeds inflation.
