It looks like a stealth yacht.

Pretty snowcaps across the Hudson in your pic, Ursus. Pretty boat, too, but probably outside my price range.

Today's visitor is the Lady May, though she seems to be going downriver rather than anchoring up here.

    Indeed.

For some reason she hasn’t been showing up properly on Marine Traffic, but Vessel Finder has her current position

I noticed that she was gone earlier when I was making my lunch. I couldn't find her on my map when I looked the other day. I found Aviva, but I knew it wasn't the right one because it was somewhere down south. When I clicked on the dot on the map, it said something vague like "pleasure craft" and mentioned a satellite location service that I presume I would have to pay extra to access.

It looks as if Aviva III has finally taken her leave of us. Currently off the coast by Atlantic City.

Or maybe they were just taking on potable water and or fuel. How would I know, I'm just a ship-stalker.

This happened a few minutes ago. I guess that answers the question 'where does the crap go'?

It went downriver overnight. It wasn't there around 3:30

I was wrong--it's still here this morning, only now I can see it.

I had an email alert that it was back, but I think I also had another one the same day that said it was departing. I never saw it though, but the vis has been so poor lately that I can barely see the river at times.

Ursus, this confused me - Aviva was most definitely moored up at Butler's Wharf on the Thames (by Tower Bridge) at 9am and 14 hours is probably a touch under the record for an Atlantic crossing. However, it seems Joe Lewis has had multiple yachts built named Aviva, the most recent being the fourth in 2017. From what I can tell, this is the London boat, with the third (2007) being the one in New York.

It's being more or less constantly dredged to make sure that it remains so, but those bulk cargo ships look like absolute Leviathans up around Hudson and the like, where the river is both narrow and has meaningful islands.

Marine Traffic tells me that the Rickmers Antwerp is sailing from Savannah.

I honestly didn't realize the river was still big enough for that up there.

They go to the Port of Albany, where they unload various types of bulk cargo

This is a test post. I don't know why I'm having trouble posting images from my Google Photos

ETA: So this method won't display the photo, but if you click on the link, you can see the image in Google Photos and you'll be able to zoom in and see it in greater detail.

This is the Samadhi. It's owned by hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb.

Our Labor Day Weekend superyacht is the Netanya 8 (though the internet tells me it has been renamed, it still bears that name on its side)
