    April fools

The Guardian somewhat spoilt their April fool of this year, at least in their online format, by putting it right next to another piece with the prominent headline "Live - April Fools Day Jokes 2015 - best from around the world". If you're going to do that, why bother?

Hobbes is right. I think there should be special laws passed regarding practical jokes of any description whatsoever.

If somebody squirts water at you out of their buttonhole or balances a jug of water on top of the door just before you enter the room or stretches shrinkwrap across your lavatory or sends you an e-mail claiming that your family have died, you've lost your job and you've got cancer, or whatever it is that constitutes a practical joke - then all other laws of the land are suspended for, say, 10 to 20 seconds after the joke has 'succeeded'.

Whatever happens in that period - assault, GBH, murder, anything - doesn't count. Legally, It doesn't actually happen.

It seems that treibeis' views are held elsewhere.
