    Is Paris Burning?

They'd better evacuate it, it's going to collapse at freefall speed on its footprint any second now.

Sky News' "French correspondent", Dominic, apparenty can't speak a word of French. He's rushing around trying to get vox pops from onlookers asking them "do you speak English?". In English.

                    Never mind.

Donald Trump is already on the case.

And I still want to know, more than anything else, is everybody ok?

                          Is everybody safe?

"What did President Macron say about his country's most famous cathedral burning down?"

"He said he didn't like it"

But yes, the interior minister has said no injuries at the site.

Yeah I can't see any casualty / injury news. Hope that's positive.

The most terrifying words in historical architecture: "The refurbishment work starts tomorrow."

How many buildings and the like have been damaged in recent years by fire because of an accident associated with the restoration work!

Guy, it is an active fire being fought by dozens of firefighters, so it is much too early to be definitive.

That said, the Cathedral was closed to visitors when it first broke out and local sources believe that everyone who isn't fighting the fire has been evacuated.

At least part of the island has also been evacuated.

I don't want firefighters risking their lives if there are no people to save.

Nef, I find virtually everything that Macron says and does more than a bit weird, so that seems to me to be very on brand.

Of course, given the large North African communities, France and Catholicism don't precisely equate, but presumably he meant the global Catholic church.

All else aside, this is really highlighting the asinine nature of rolling news coverage. Yvette Cooper has just been on the BBC news - being an MP on holiday - and the anchor has asked, in all apparent seriousness, if she knows what started the fire.

                                                  It's actually quite anger-inducing.
