On the face of it this is a remarkable thing, isn't it? A country hell-bent on developing as fast as it can and with, well, for some a questionable human rights record, is saying "hang on, let's actively protect these little chaps that just sit about eating trees"?

Save the panda, which is their national emblem, but screw the sharks, rhinos, tigers, elephants and countless other endangered species that face extinction due to the voracious appetites of chinese consumers.
