I signed up for a gym membership at £30 a month, fully in the knowledge that I was likely to be made redundant the next week. I was, and went once.

I also used to be a member at Manchester's festival of wankers, the Circle Club. A tenner a month from November 2003 to May 2010. I went a few more times than the gym, but not many, and I didn't even get any work out of it when it was set up as a networking... er, network.
