This has been the social media story of the week in the US, with plenty of parents taking to Facebook and Twitter to tell Play Doh how their children's Christmas had been "ruined".

They have since redesigned the "extruder"

and one does wonder how the original ever got produced (it is part of a 20+ piece set, so it is possible that no one (other than the original designer) was paying attention).

I had to Google the intruder .. er, extruder, to see what you were on about. Heh.

Oh, it's in the OP. Doh!

Though I'm quite sure the Grimsby Telegraph appreciates the clicks, for those not so inclined, here's the original

I was aiming at a comment in the reactions rather than the actual story

The redesigned extruder looks like a butt plug.

My daughter had a Play-Doh set like this earlier, and I remember something being kind of phallic, but not that obvious.

Are the two pieces on the left just offcuts, or have I been missing out on something in the bedroom?

I thought it was the original.

Despite the best attempts of my local paper to assume we all want inflammatory sub-Daily Mail clickbait...

Poundland selling sex toys for £1 in stores

...it doesn't normally impress commenters. I particularly liked one response to this on Twitter:

Well obviously, what other price could they charge?

Fantastic choice of photo on that story (better than a photo of the man at the centre of proceedings, admittedly).

The man is described as in his 20s, with short black hair
Which hair are we on about, here?

Was Grimsby the only city to notice? If so it's a place I have long misunderstood.

Well they had v little distraction from football this season, so had more time to notice

Viennese whirls, an odd choice, I'd have thought.

Sol is also an odd choice. At least I know my alibi is sound as:

                                              A) I can't stand Viennese Whirls
                                              B) I can't stand Sol
                                              C) I was 300 miles away at the time.

                                              Watertight.

I fear the days of amusing stories from the News and Star / Times and Star / Cumberland News / Whitehaven News stable are numbered. The papers are turning into a right shitshow, with big staffing cuts made and more to come, apparently. The papers are printed in Glasgow and driven down to local shops for decoration, as very few people are buying them. They give them out for free at offices (including mine) and once that starts there's no way back towards being a fully paid-for publication. More and more stock photos and AP/PA material, and the websites are horrific.
