Tl;dr Six officers beat the shit out of a pensioner - full thread including the police explanation

Prosecutors have dramatically halted attempts by the Metropolitan police to criminalise people for attending the vigil for Sarah Everard in another humiliating blow for Britain’s biggest force.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) notified lawyers last week that it had “discontinued” attempts by the police to criminalise six protesters as it was not in the public interest.
The result is a significant victory for women who have described the Met’s determination to target those at the vigil as “absurd and damaging”.
The decision is also an embarrassing first blow for its new commissioner, Mark Rowley, whose force has remained keen to prosecute women protesting the kidnap, rape and murder of Everard at the hands of a serving Met officer.

Every officer involved in the Daniel Morgan scandal will escape punishment, the police watchdog has announced, despite an independent inquiry finding that corruption in the Metropolitan police shielded the private detective’s killers with the force ignoring information.
Those escaping any action include the former Met commissioner Cressida Dick, who the inquiry accused of hampering its work.

The Met has been placed under special measures after the police inspectorate found significant failings.
(I believe that this means it will be privatised and turned into an academy.)

But it would be much harder to continue racist institutions charged with upholding racist society if you couldn't employ racists in them.

Wouldn't a better idea not to have recruited racists in the first place, or promoted them into positions of authority where they could recruit yet more racists?

tbh I've always assumed that the SWP is a state front anyway, there to drain activists of energy whilst achieving nothing of use

Public Enemy Number One
At least 24 undercover police officers infiltrated a small leftwing party as part of a surveillance operation criticised as being “Orwellian” and unjustified in its scale, a public inquiry has heard.
Officers were sent to spy on the Socialist Workers party (SWP) in deployments that usually lasted four years. The party, whose total membership fluctuated around a few thousand, was the leftwing group most infiltrated by undercover police.

There are no words. The police, the justice system, it's all institutionally racist.
