The demand from Lady Lawrence directly challenges police chiefs’ resolute stance of refusing to name undercover officers on the grounds that they have an absolute and lifelong duty to protect officers who worked in covert roles.
Yeah. Because it's important for CPOs to remember where their duty lies, init?
UK police can be convicted of criminal offences. And rather a lot are. But only as long as no-one died. Or was attacked because of the colour of their skin. Or because they were protesting injustice. Or etc etc

Good fucking riddance too. This is the cunt who tried to arm Scotland's police by stealth, despite being told by the public and every politician in the land not to do so.
The gallows humour doing the rounds back home is that he handed in his notice on Monday, but Police Scotland only found it today...
Salmond argued for having some armed police for emergency response purposes (anti-terror cops at airports, etc), but he didn't give House permission to send them out on routine patrols on the high street: House ignored him and did so anyway.
Then Sturgeon took over post-referendum and ordered House to cease and desist - it took several months after that for it stop.
The amazing thing is he's lasted this long; any other government would have sacked the bastard outright last year.

Cheers!
(We don't get much "foreign news" down here you know!)
And Polis Scotland disgrace themselves yet again, with predictably tragic consequences for the family involved: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-34354999
