    The UK Police Misconduct Thread

Trespass is a civil rather than criminal offence. There is an offence of aggravated trespass - which is bollocks - but they were arrested for violent disorder - not aggravated trespass.

Likely we'll never know what they did or are alleged to have done because no charges will be brought.

It's mass arrest as a tactic - a way of violently suppressing protest - rather than ensuring the safety or security of anyone.

In a lot of cases, the mass arrests are pre-planned (see the Tower Hamlets EDL counter-demos for example).

It doesn't seem unreasonable to term a situation when someone has been asked to leave, does so, and then attempts to gain access again in the face of people attempting to prevent them doing so aggravated trespass.

As for the rest of the post, I'm sure you are right. There have been enough examples of this in the past to this feel likely to be the case.

A police officer who kicked and hit a mother as she sat by the hospital bed of her sick child, leaving her with more than 40 injuries, has been cleared of actual bodily harm.

Highlights include hospital security staff being appalled by the incident and two fellow officers appearing for the prosecution, one describing the incident as "horrific".

“I did kick out at the left side of her face as trained to do. My footwear was a boot but it’s light.”

“I can’t say exactly where and how her injuries were sustained, I can only say what I did.”

So they train police to kick women in the face, do they?

What does a cop need to do on duty to get convicted of a violent offence?

In this case, two police officers testified against him.

"Laura Riley, one of the officers, wept as she described the scene, and the officer Mary Clark described the incident as “just horrific”."

"Cole, a sports science student at Bedfordshire University, suffered a so-called hangman’s fracture, with experts saying it was the result of considerable force being used on his neck while his head was being pulled back. The investigation is considering if police officers were responsible for breaking his neck, and if they were, whether it amounts to an act of misconduct or criminality.

"The family claim police initially tried to mislead them in the immediate aftermath. They say one officer told them Cole was talking after his arrest. His family say medical evidence shows this would be impossible for someone whose spinal cord had been severed. Another allegedly claimed Cole was drunk but his family say medical tests show he was not."

“Inspectors were particularly concerned to find that when force policies required officers to take ‘positive action’ in response to reports of domestic abuse, this was interpreted in some forces as always requiring an arrest, even for children.”
