I've always taken the ACAB to mean police as an institution, individuals might be great and do their job effectively etc but the institution as a whole is corrupt.

Every single scandal seems to point to this. Because there are so many.

The institution is corrupt by design, and although it could be reformed to be a bit less so, it would and will not change fundamentally.

Personally, I've never met a decent one. But YMMV.

That terrible terrible violence in Bristol that spawned social media outrage and loads of "we support the police" memes. Yep, that was bullshit.

Some apologies are due to Nadia Whittome. But none will be forthcoming

Never, ever believe anything the police ever say, ever.

The filth are apparently going berserk in Bristol.

I've met one, the lad who found my sister's body. He took the trouble to tell me she had a look of peace on her face. He was only in his 20s, I thought that showed an unusually high level of emotional intelligence and decency. I sometimes wonder what became of him, cos sure as shit most of them aren't like that. I suspect he either left or was broken by the overall culture.

Yeah, the 'best' thing is for you and/or your family to be brutalised by them as a child. You never forget it then.

Yeah, had personal reports from Bristol over the last week. Cops have been outdoing the Met there.

(AFAB, obvs. There was some nonsense the other week after the Met attacked the Sarah Everard vigil, trying to paint the Met as special in their violence. They aren't.)

Even chief centrist David Allen Green is showing more courage than the Guardian, let alone the Bbc

One of my Bristol mates had her fella nicked this week and another friend of hers had her nose broken by a cop using a shield as a weapon. I find it too hard to watch the footage.

Reminds me so much of Orgreave, Wapping and the Battle of the Beanfield. Obviously there are other examples.

It's always worth remembering, if one is thinking "How/when did the BBC get so bad", that they doctored their Orgreave footage to make it look like strikers initiated the violence.

TonTon, I'm not generally into posting such images. But I noticed some defence of the police on this thread, it's really those posters I'm hoping will take a look. As with Maugham and Schneider linked above, it would be nice if more 'centrist' (I do wish this word could be used descriptively, without the connotation that it's an automatic insult) types would look at the evidence and think ah, it seems I may have been wrong.

I agree, dm. I can't always watch myself, but it needs to be seen
