    "Aces"

What's up with this? Why the fuck has everyone started sticking the letter 's' on the end of 'ace'?

I blame 40%, specifically Lyra, who is by far the worst culprit for it. I've even been to to do it on occasion, but when I catch myself I give myself a sharp jab to the sack, as a reminder not to do it again.

I'm off for a nap now, and possibly some soup later, and when I get back I expect this to have stopped.

(They use the 's' left over from "inning".)

Anyone else cringe slightly when Abba sing "The gods may roll a dice"?

Don't apologise, TonTon. Just don't fucking do it.

I decided against a nap. I've got shit to do. And I'm not having soup either - braising steak, carrots and mash instead.

I suppose the Graeco-Roman polytheistic model is better-suited to poetic metaphor, yes.

                              Or, you know, Nordic.

I like to think that Benny and Bjorn were thinking of Thor and Freya and that lot.

Huh? Perhaps in the sense of playing cards or fighter pilots, but not the way it is being used here.

No, really. Dialectal, no doubt, and now archaic, but come on: "You're aces wit me, sweet cheeks", and so on. Edward G Robinson must have said something like that in every movie he made.

                                        70 years ago, though.

The British usage of the singular is much more current.

                                          or 'wick wock'?

Skill works. But some things aren't skill, they're ace. And vice versa.

On a board where "word" is used, apparently unironically, and "meh" is also used, "aces" doesn't sound particularly worse although it is, of course, fucking stupid
