The Irish Times then goes on to detail discussions in the house between Mary-Lou and the current Ceann Comhairle Sean Barett. Great fun. The Irish Times are pretending of course that Sean Barett and S. Barett are two completely different people.

Doesn't look like SF are really interested in an FF coalition at this rate.

But they are entirely different people. S. barrett is Sylvie Barrett, who was minister for the Environment in Lynch's last govt, and then minister for Defence under Haughey. He's famous for two things. He was one of the people that rang paddy hillery to stop him from dissolving the dail (the thing that got lenihan into so much trouble) and secondly he dealt with a large backlog of people waiting for their driving tests, by giving everyone a driving licence.

McDonald knows that and is deliberately trying to slander the ceann comhairle.

I would have thought that the female version of sylvie was Sylvia. Ap, unless your granddad got his licence in a very limited timespan in 1979, it's more likely that he got a driving licence before the introduction of a test in 1963
