The 2016 Irish election is over!

Does anyone think that's likely to happen?
not a hope. Your ego has to be absolutely enormous to become a far left politician in a climate as unpromising in ireland (given your chances of success are effectively zero) so the idea that these people could all work together are almost zero. the infighting and internecine warfare is so all encompassing, precisely because the stakes are so low.

These people are far too tall and thin. They are the wrong shape for people born in the 1920's-1940's.

This is hilarious. It's baroque in its hilarious awfulness.

This is such a brilliant story, and they're making such a shite of it

Could a "rebranded" Sinn Fein win lots more support?

I can't decide if the highlight of the programme was haughey eating an ortolan, or dessie O'Malley breaking up fist fight with saddam's scimitar

Unlikely - Mary Lou seems to be becoming as increasingly compromised as Adams, so the notion of a clean break will be harder to sustain. As TAB mentions, Charlie has become even more comical - would Mitterand really bring a French finch with him to the Blaskets, and while the thought of Des O'Malley swinging Saddam's sword is delightful, it seems as apocryphal as a hurley hanging in Baghdad's presidential palace.

Mitterand would definitely bring a chef and ortolans with him, and someone apparently did drive people away from jim gibbons by wielding a sword. It's not clear though if it was dessie, or if it was saddam's scimitar.

Are there any current affair comedy shows on radio these days ?

Anything about the minister for foreign affairs who mixes up his L and N.? Must be a challenge working with Charnie Fnalagal, especially when discussing places like the Nebalol, Nibya let alone his native Irenald.

Reboot score a whopping 1% in their first opinion poll, increasing to 6% "if their policies were known". The government surprisingly make gains:

                                  FG 24% (+3)
                                  SF 21% (-3)
                                  FF 18% (-1)
                                  Lab 8% (+2)
                                  Others 29% (-1)

Reminds me of Eamonn McCann's quip about the Progressive Democrats years ago: "Apart from anything else, there are two lies in their name."

Question for the local election-watchers: can that 29% be broken down (broad left and right, or maybe even 'false' FG and FF only pretending to be independent? ). Ta.

Greens are 1%, and in another supplementary question of Red C, ULA would be on 8% if it reformed.

mark coleman is nuts. The government does however need to give something back for electoral reasons, because the economy is on target to being back in good shape in two years, just in time to really benefit the next govt.
