Y'know, I read a similar headline about two months ago. There's more of it about than you'd think.

      Dwarf crime 'a growing problem'

Time for a War on Dwarves methinks.

We'd have to be careful about this and plan ahead - they're quite well-armed:

Now I'm no tactician and they do have some big cannons at the back. But those dwarves appear to be armed with giant toffee hammers.

re the plural of Dwarf, my brother yesterday reckoned the plural is "Dwarfs" and that "Dwarves" was an invention of Tolkein. can any otfers enlighten me further?

our crime outbreak was just the one dwarf by the way :-)

I thought this thread was going to be about Shitdisco's American chart positions.

We don't have a City Dwarf where I live--that I know about, anyway. Probably a good thing if they're just a bunch of con artists.

Maybe the placard meant to use "dwarf's" as a (misspelled) verb, to indicate that the burgling scam has been dwarfed by the city.
                  Ya think?

to be honest that's about the first time I've seen a local billboard that had the apostrophe in the correct place :-)

oddly enough my local is usually full of small people around xmas time as the panto actors from the nearby theatres seem to rather like getting pissed out of their brains there

Long Beach, where I grew up, has an urban legend of a Midget Town. If you grow up in the LBC, you will hear about this, and everyone knows someone that knows someone that found it, but was chased out by angry little people that don't want to be bothered.

So it really is about an actual dwarf?

                        Sorry, Bruno.

The OED has an 1818 citation for "dwarves", but everything else is "dwarfs".

I always thought that the verb was dwarfs and the noun was dwarves.

So, are these the actual dwarfs (sorry, Tolkein fans) responsible for the burgling scam? That one in the top-right corner looks like he's making off with something.
