So it's looking like Tony Abbott's "Liberals" will win easily today if all predictions are correct. Rudd's bounce was never high enough and he's now suffering partly from inertia, and partly from the divisiveness of Labor in recent years. He has been both an instigator and victim of this.
We trooped up to the school to vote earlier and once again were confronted with a ridiculous Senate ballot paper I estimate was around three feet long. The choice was, vote in one box above the line, or rank all 110 choices below the line in order of preference. After all, Shooters & Fishers and The Sex Party must have their voice.
If you only take the single-vote option, as surely the vast majority will do, your 109 preferences will be those chosen by your party of choice. Apparently a load of the micro-parties are working together to try and exploit this. To be honest I don't quite understand how but Guardian Australia have an article on it
