I thought she had been in Nagorno Karabakh.

Hope she's OK. Would love to read the interview, it's a big thing in Turkey and only being reported to stir up tensions as the economy implodes.

She was there during the war, reporting from the Armenian side.

I'll see what I can find of her writings.

        This is relevant I think.

        I hope she's OK GO.

She's fine. She's going to be staying with us this weekend along with her boyfriend who's arriving from Turkey on Friday night.

That's good news. It's happened to quite a lot of people, being barred from the country that is.

If true, which I've no reason to doubt, this is huge news.

In 2015 the PKK was about to end its armed struggle and Erdoğan got cold feet and didn't follow through on his promises rekindling the conflict.

With the dollar going to hit 10 TL sooner rather than later picking this kind of fight is only going to hit the people.

It really does feel like the end of the AKP but the damage to the country is likely to be catastrophic.

The Lira has collapsed and it looks like so much is deliberate to wipe out the middle class opponents of the regime.

With so many things imported, and therefore linked to foreign currency rates, this is only going to get a lot worse

The whims of one man make 84 million people suffer, any Turkish citizen abroad who supports this man should immediately be sent back to Turkey and made to survive on minimum wage alone to understand what Erdoğan has done.

The salary I've been offered for my contract there suddenly looks a lot less attractive than it did when it was offered.

(back when I lived in Turkey in the early 90s I used to take my salary every month to the gold bazaar, exchange 75% of it for deutschmarks, and then slowly turn it back into lire across the month, since the inflation /exchange rate was in such a state that this made financial sense)

That's exactly what I used to do but for dollars.

Any salary quoted in TL is now suddenly looking very unattractive.

If your new place of work charges in dollars or euros, which is highly likely, you should be able to get a salary linked to that currency.

Unless Erdoğan and the AKP suddenly leave office, very unlikely, then this is only going to go one way. Unofficial inflation is close to 50%.

No my place of work is a foundation university, the vast majority of whose students are Turkish and therefore, I assume, pay in lire

I thought this was a decent analysis.

It's also very relevant for the UK with the current regime we've got in place.

Erdoğan is already claiming this as a win.

After hitting 10TL to the dollar last week the free fall continued to nearly 11.5. Interest rates were cut, and it got worse.

The AKP seem determined to ruin the country and leave the really painful economic decisions to whoever takes power.
