    Tumblr

In the same spirit as the crassly overpriced acquisition of Instagram by Facebook comes Yahoo's $1.1billion purchase of Tumblr - an organisation that took in $15m in advertising revenue last year.

So a valuation coming in at roughly 80 years worth of turnover. I'll give Melissa Meyer 12 months tops.

I don't believe the assurances by Yahoo that they won't change anything. I'll give it 6 months until the first ads appear.

Yahoo has also completely changed the look of Flickr, to much dismay.

              Isn't the answer obvious?

Yahoo recently bought Astrid, a 4m user task management / to-do app, and promptly closed it. Why the fuck would you do that?

Perhaps because you only bought it for IP that you want to incorporate into one or more of your other offerings.

Does anyone with a Tumblr know why the browser widgets for queuing new content seem to have stopped working?

                      Why not?
                      Capitalism will always do this.

Someone ought to do something about this "capitalism" lark.

Agreed. But in the meantime... Tumblr widget...?

It's a blogging platform — it's halfway between Twitter and WordPress.

                                Presumably tumbler.com was already taken.
