    Urgent Excel Question

Do you like to work with the gridlines on or off?

I like a blank white page that I can place gridlines only where I want them to be. I like it because I think it looks neater, and the finished product looks more professional.

    And you?

      Urgent Excel Question

As long as you put them where you want them (i.e., somewhere on the page to delineate columns, sums, etc). I have a coworker that insists on getting rid of all gridlines, and his reports look like a series of random numbers floating about the paper. Drives me bonkers.

          No gridlines?

          Are you mad?

          Why?

I bet you use colours, too, don't you?

            Urgent Excel Question

Only when I need to highlight something, and I always try to use the lighter ones--no neon green.

As for the gridlines, well, you're an accountant so I wouldn't expect you to understand. You gotta think outside the grid.

            Heh.

              Urgent Excel Question

Yes I am an accountant, and EXCEL belongs to US. We allow you lot to use it, as a special treat. But you aren't allowed to be silly with it.

Highlighting for a transitory purpose? That's acceptable.

                Urgent Excel Question

No, you have your little general ledgers and your balance sheets. I'm a data analyst and Excel is OUR domain. Here is the test: can you do what you do without it? I'll answer for you--yes, you can. I can not do my job without it.

                So there, proof positive.

FF, how the hell do you skulk around without your name popping up in the 'users' areas? I know you told me how at the old board, but I didn't know that option existed here.

                        Urgent Excel Question

OK, another question. Occasionally, I have to copy a section of an Excel 2003 file and paste it into e-mail. Usually, the grid lines, fonts, alignment, etc. would transfer, but since I got a new computer, the copying and pasting just results in normal text. What do I need to do to return to the old style in which formatting transfers?

Is this that game where you have to answer every question with another question?

(No, by the way, I couldn't do my job without Excel)
