The F-150 will rule the sales charts when the price of gas eventually goes up again. It's something like 750 lbs lighter than the Chev/GMC.

More on the way, too. Honda, Jeep and Scion all have new CUVs coming to compete with the Jukes of the world.

My boss is 6'4" and drives a Fiat 500 convertible (it was his wife's, but she ferrys the kids around in the Escalade).

Thing looks like a clown car. Especially did when we got four of us in it to drive to lunch, simply to see if you could get four adults in a fiat 500.

You see a fair number on the roads here. Not surprising as a) we have a huge Italian/European diaspora and b) small cars to well here.

Less well-selling is the monstrosity known as the 500L, which took everything desirable about the 500 and chucked it wholesale into the river.

The new 500-based CUV looks to do better.

I do dislike the current approach to manufacturing cars. 500 is a success? Lets screw around with it in three of four different iterations!

Like Mini station wagons and any even numbered BMW there was no good reason.

Hundreds of Cinco Centos in Vancouver. I've occasionally wondered why Japanese auto makers — who all have competitive models of similar size — don't sell them here.

The 500L also has that profoundly stereotypical Viagra-themed advert.

Not to say the stereotypes are not without some basis. After all, they repeatedly elected a Viagra-fueled Lothario to run the country for over a decade.

It's Cinquecento, which Amor will know as the term for the Sixteenth Century.

Mini should be a case study in what not to do with the 500, but they'll do it anyway. I mean, like the new Beetle and the new Mini, what do you do next?

Given the Micra sales numbers, it won't be long until smaller Japanese cars are here. Toyota/Scion next, then a new Mazda 2. And then who knows...

Yeah, as Victor Papanek wrote decades ago — with regard to the original Beetle — it's almost a design imperative so far as auto-makers are concerned.

I've told my friend in Toronto what WOM says about her choice of car (and what that says about her) and she is quite offended.

I should probably be using my time more productively.

There are two types of car that have drivers who terrorize my life. The Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry. Both attract the 5-mph below the speed limit in the outside lane driving community.
