Going into the office is lethal for my health. I have to run a gauntlet of cakes, flapjacks, biscuits, chocolates, "treats I brought back from my travels", etc, which line the lockers down each side of the office and the aisle in the middle.

Also, you guys should know me well enough by now to know that I exaggerate almost everything in my life for comedic effect.

Comedy is how I have dealt with everything shit in my life since I was about five. I did it so well that it took me a really long time to admit that anything traumatic had ever happened to me ever.

Though how good the cake is is not directly correlated to your promotion prospects. You don't have to be good at baking for that, but you have to be willing to try and endure the humiliation of the executive director telling you that your cake is "a bit dry".
It's been said, but worth repeating, that this is utterly appalling, and makes your place sound horrific. Comedy exaggeration caveat noted.

            Very much so.

This is the kind of thing that would be the subject of ridicule in industry publications were a professional firm to try it over here.

I am knackered. I made the mistake of bothering to go out for pizza with my colleagues. They all went off to the pub afterwards but I draw the limit at that. I can't be doing with wobbling round on my stick in a noisy, crowded pub. So far, it's taken me an hour to even manage to get on a train home and it'll take me at least another 45 minutes to actually get to my front door. I did enjoy chatting with my colleagues but I'm realising that I am far too old for this sort of nonsense. Think I might have to make less effort with work. I was planning to make an effort to socialise with them every couple of months. I think I'm going to downgrade that to a couple of times a year.

Tonight is my office do. Glitz and Glam is the theme. It might shock you to learn that I'm neither. If I don't end up looking completely absurd, I'll post a picture.

Despite it not really being my thing (fun and socializing), I had a thoroughly good time. Got there too early (6:30), ate lots of food, socialized and slipped out at 9:15.
