I'm very happy to hear about Lesbians For Trans Rights, dm. I'd probably tear-up at that, too, as a CIS-het ally.

Fortunately, she's flying to Denver rather than the East Coast - although Denver also still looks kind of stormy.

Taking procrastinating to a new height: I just googled "do domed pistons create higher compression ratios?"

You know, things that urgently need to be researched on a Saturday afternoon.

(the answer is, they can, but not always)

I still have much cleaning to do before tomorrow. I reckon it'll all get done in the two hours prior to my mom coming over here.

We get to keep our child 'til tomorrow. She's now definitely a little displeased by the situation. I hope to appease that with ice cream later.

Ice cream solves most things. Or at least dulls the disappointment.

It seems to have been a general focus after all the nonsense last year (for anyone who doesn't know, terves jumped on the front of the march and started hating). I hear that 'L With The T' signs were prominent at the front and Sadiq Khan was with them. I encountered no tervery or any other hostility (bar the usual deranged Christian) and high-fived many spectators, including some lovely children. One of the great things about marching at Pride is that you get to feel like a pop star if you like.

Ice cream or gelato? I've never understood the difference.

I'm hoping to take her to one of the fancy asian instagrammy Ice Cream places for "Shaved snow", "rolled ice cream" or "puffle cones"

Genuine question: What does "tervery" mean?

dm, gelato has a higher proportion of milk than traditional ice cream and less cream (meaning that the overall fat content is lower by as much as 2/3). It also uses fewer or no eggs. It is churned more slowly, and is therefore denser with less air. Gelato makers are generally much less fond of artificial ingredients, too.

treibeis, it refers to the nefarious activities of anti-trans extremists who style themselves feminists despite having links with nasty evangelicals and anti-abortion types in the US (and Ireland, I think), and who are horribly influential in the UK media, to the extent that people in other countries regularly go "what the fuck is wrong with the UK?". The word is my own variation deriving from the acronym 'T E R F' (trans erasing radical feminist), which I don't use because it can bring unwelcome visitors to the yard, but which remains a shorthand that people interested in the topic are likely to recognise so it gets used a lot. They are extremely nasty; they like going after supportive parents of trans kids, organisations who support trans kids and anyone who supports trans people in the media (including social media). Imagine if anti-vaxxers used PETA-style tactics.

Shaved snow sounds cool. Mind you, you can get bubble tea here now and I still haven't felt any desire to try it.

Ah, right, thanks for the explanation. I assumed it was something unpleasant, but didn't realise just how unpleasant.

Bubble tea's shit, by the way.

I've been attacked by terves for supporting trans rights, and I endorse all that dm says.

There are discussions to be had (as we've had on here) around trans women competing in sport (contrary to myth, they don't always win), maybe around some other things, but they need to be conducted from a place of kindness and respect. Instead, I've seen terves time and time again profess concern for women's safety whilst putting the boot into transwomen quite viciously.

Happy to see lots of pro-T posts today, including a thing in Pink News by that nice Mr Corbyn, of Islington.

I didnít know motels were uniquely North American.

I saw the Paper Chase film. I didnít know it was a TV show. It was one of the things that helped persuade me not to do law school or anything that would require me to take life so seriously.

Speaking of HLS, Iím watching The Firm right now. Iíve seen it before, of course, but itís a great film.

I really like the anti-vaxxer comparison, as both sets of nasties completely ignore a strong body of medical evidence that directly contradicts their prejudices and carry on attempting to cause as much misery as they can. But I've not seen anyone else make this comparison.

I've posted a couple of instances demonstrating how their fearmongering has made non-traditionally gender conforming cis women decidedly less safe in that modern arena of ontological conflict, the public lavatory. And that's quite aside from what I'd consider the fairly obvious point that anything limiting bodily autonomy for any minority is liable to redound to the disadvantage of women.

Porn Star Martini was quite nice, yum vanilla.

It bothers me that the US seems to have a wider variety of 'world' (sorry, I'm tired and can't think of a better term) cuisine than London. There are plenty of Thai places here but I've never seen anything like that on offer. Maybe some posh ones do it.

You spray whipped cream on your ham? Iíve been missing a trick all these years.

I have just spent 11 hours in the truck and just now eaten Chipotle for the first time. Rained most of the day. Headache has finally broken, which is nice.
