Galentine's Day

I spotted this on a bit of advertising for a spa afternoon/meal/overnight stay at a local golf and country club. Book for Valentine's Day - Feb 14th, or Galentine's Day, Feb 13th. For groups of girlfriends, apparently - presumably ones who'd greatly prefer to spend a day like this away from their actual partners?

Judging from the name "Galentine's Day" must be an American thing but has anyone else ever heard of it?

Isn't it just something stolen from Parks and Recreation. Leslie Knope creates it so she can give gifts to her best friend (who's name escapes me).
