It's absolutely dreadful news. I was lucky enough to meet her a few times. She had terrible health problems but she was generous and without self-pity to the last.

Her work on Grenfell was important and much better than that 40000 word ego wank in the LRB. RIP.

                  That's a big loss.
At first I was thinking she got fired for criticizing a septuagenarian golfer.

Nef, I wonder if it's worth re-titling this thread so that it's clearer it's about Dawn?

Yes very good idea- have been thinking that as soon as I wrote it, but I think We need Snake Plissken for that. What would be a better title do you think?

The Guardian has published an article. it is as about as forthright as you would expect from today's Guardian

Foster was a staff writer for Jacobin magazine, and a contributor to the London Review of Books and the Times Literary Supplement. She wrote for the Guardian’s comment pages on housing and social justice issues.

That article was so on the button. Dawn, as I once was, was of the Catholic faith and always of absolutely good faith. She had her sneering detractors but they could not lay a finger on her and revealed more about themselves with their sneering.

It speak utter volumes that her sacking was accompanied with 0.1% of the horror and fury that those people threw out when Suzanne Moore got fired for transphobia.

and this beautiful piece about food and where she was from.

And the Guardian dumped her because she criticisedTom Watson
