The last post 2020 charts: World

The question on literally nobody's lips is: What has been the impact of the pandemic on getting the last word in?

When the topic of Last Post-ing was broached towards the end of 2019, it gave rise to some statfoolery (copyright Duncan Gardner ) covering a year's-worth of posts. Three months seemed like a decent interval to see whether threads have run their course - although for these purposes 'The art thread will never end!' is taken as having ended - and the charts relate to LPs in the calendar year of 2020.

    The LP leaders for World:
Rank (2019) Name LP >50 Magnus Nil Median
    1 (4) Nefertiti2 35 13 6 3 31
    2 (2) ursus arctos 27 11 2 0 38

    >50: threads of more than 50 posts LP-ed
    Magnus: "I've started so..."

In total 584 threads were LP-ed in 2020 by 116 different LP-ers; this compares with 577 and 144 respectively in the 12-month period previously surveyed (Nov 2018 - Oct 2019, after one month's grace period).
The median length of threads in World that were LP-ed in 2020 is 23 posts (not counting the OP).

I'll be back after having posted the charts for the other forums, to share some findings in response to the query from Vicarious Thrillseeker about the LP hit-rate (overall posts per LP).

In my defence, Your Nocturnal Honour, I do find it interesting how some posters have more of a knack for finishing a thread, when you can never know if yours will be the last post. (Although I suspect I'll be earning a clutch of LPs with this flurry of threads.)

The overall Top 20 countdown from the seven main forums:

And finally... what about the frequency of LP-ing in relation to the number of posts?

For this I've used DG's compilation of the number of posts in 2020, although the timeframes don't match exactly. Taking the posters for whom that data is accessible, on average one should expect an LP every 93 posts. This means that the most metronomically regular LP-er is Sits, who burnishes his LP Everyman status by having logged an LP in each of the seven forums (sharing that distinction with Guy Profumo and Various Artist ).
The posters who howled into the void with the greatest frequency in 2020 are:

            Jobi1 18 posts/LP (270 posts/15 LPs)
            DPDPDPDP 21 (213/10)
            Bordeaux Education 23 (579/25)
            Guy Profumo 28 (1561/55)
            Giggler 30 (302/10)
            gt3 33 (232/7)
            G-Man 34 (648/19)
            Felicity, I guess so 34 (652/19)
            diggedy derek 35 (499/14)
            danielmak 36 (840/36)

Jumbo McGinnis racked up 11 LPs (10 in Football) and is not included in the count-up of annual posts, for the reasons stated at the bottom of this page.

Conversely, the keenest to invite further comment are:

            Bruno 796 (796/1)
            matt j 773 (773/1)
            San Bernardhinault 488 (3417/7)
            Moonlight Shadow 472 (944/2)
            Cal Alamein 448 (448/1)
            Balderdasha 365 (4016/11)
            Fussbudget 358 (716/2)
Sean of the Shed 311 (1245/4)
            ad hoc 305 (3668/12)
            Jimski 277 (554/2)

The most prolific LP-less contributor in 2020 was... irony towers, mainly because the bulk of my posts are in the genuinely never-ending crossword and prediction competition threads. (And don't think I can't hear you say, "Should've stayed there, an'all.")

Each of the seven forums, I think you mean IT, but this is grand – truly a stat I can be proud of.

Actually, that's not entirely sarcastic – because at least it shows I take an interest in each area, by virtue of never using the individual forums as my access point and instead only ever using the 'Today's posts' link to find stuff that sounds intriguing, regardless of where it originates.

My quite routine habit of lapsing from the boards for a day or six at a time, then catching up with interesting threads that other people have already said their piece in and abandoned, is doubtless the cause for my 'last word' status on numerous topics. The rest I can only blame on my comments being too boring to respond to.

Sits , in case it reads ambiguously, I meant that you were bang on the average of 93 posts per LP. You are, in not a few ways, the model OTFer.

(I predict this will not be the last post of the thread.)
