Another return of the lira? Italian politics thread

For some reason, the original thread isn't showing on either this search function or on Google when you try various Italian political names, but Renzi has brought everything crashing down tonight.

    That's weird

Not showing up for me, either

Even some of his few remaining supporters are finding this to be reckless

Why is he such a cunt? I don't understand this at all, but hey. From that article his beef seems really vague bar shouting and screaming for attention.

Italian politics are full of mediocrities who are in it for the attention.

        He is a prime example.

Here's the current state of the Italian opinion polls. Basically the League (green) and Five Star (yellow) are on a downward trend, the DP (red) are fairly stable and the Brothers Of Italy (dark blue) are on the up:

As that illustrates quite well, the most salient development in recent months has been that Salvini (green) has been losing support to Berlusconi's protegee Merloni (blue), who shares much of the Lega's ideology but lacks a good deal of Salvini's personal baggage.

Conte now appears to be confirmed as the new leader of 5 Star, and has unveiled his manifesto, where the stelle would stand for "community, ecology, social justice, technological innovation and an eco-social economy ".

Like most Italian politician, they will say anything to consolidate power, and the continuing rise of Fratelli d'Italia has plundered their right.

Though there are some people in the party who actually believe in such things.

What is he planning to do about italy's massive black economy that is at the root of pretty much all of their economic and social woes?

The tax amnesties were in hindsight incredibly important, firstly in that they brought in a massive amount of revenue when we were actually properly bankrupt, but also bringing people into the tax system allowed them to openly spend the money that they essentially had to keep in their mattress.

Imagine how bad things must have been for ireland to make businessmen, farmers and the self employed pay tax?

Personally I'd like the modern method to be Revenue turn up at the hellish one-off housing of each of those groups with big fuck off guns and scary dogs. Landmine and strafe their fucking extensive road frontage if they try to run away.

The Guardian are writing that 39% of Italians support Berlusconi for president. I cannot find any sources backing up that number; does anybody have corroborating or disproving evidence?

It blows my mind that this man is not politically dead and buried. But here we are.

It's also mindblowing that he has become a centrist figure, given how far Italian politics has moved to the right in the last decade - thankfully, the parliament, which is still dominated by the Democrats and Five Star, actually elects the president.
