I see that John Le Carre was so pissed off with Brexit that he obtained Irish citizenship before he died.

My friend who is originally from Carrick told me about a 20 year old dickhead working in her office (in Wales) who voted Brexit and told her it wouldn't affect things on Northern Ireland. "And if there was any trouble the army could help out." When he was told that had been, um, problematic previously, he was genuinely mystified. He'd never heard of the Troubles.
(I'm not saying that all 20 year olds are ignorant. But that one was.)

Agreed, certainly with the parenthetical bit. And while I can't explicitly deny the indifference you mention, I never hear it expressed among my cohort, even among the more conservative members. I wonder just how real it is, or does just provide an excuse for defunding education.

I think that most of them are not at all comfortable looking at the issue directly, but instead see massive generational inequality as being a necessary side effect of the imperative of protecting (and enhancing) their existing privilege (including the privilege of assisting those younger people they hold dear (but only those people)).

I really have no idea. However I accept that childless individuals, or those whose own children are childless, may feel that way. But I have a hard time understanding grandparents who wouldn't want the best available education for their grandchildren. Obviously some can help with that themselves, but I'm not sure how many. I know we'd find it hard financing three post-secondary careers, and we're by no means wanting.

DR's has been deleted (and Nef's has a format error), but DR's note works equally well for the original version of this
