    The Post-Brexit Thread

Now that 2021 has arrived, perhaps a new thread is in order to keep tabs on EU-UK relations. First up, a grand total of 12 lorries arrived on the first ferry between Holyhead and Dublin this morning:

Ah, that'll be the paperwork the Prime Minister assured everyone they "could throw in the bin".

That's 33% of the HGVs without the correct paperwork, I know it's early days but 6 from 18 is extraordinary.

I blame the Remoaners, traitor judges, activist lawyers, woke feminists, Lefties, liberals and the elite for failing to deliver the purest of Brexits that was almost in our grasp.

"The government says it will bring in a new Global Health Insurance card [to replace the EHIC]".

It says fucking what? And who promised that? Hancock?

Yeah that was news to me. It's the vogue isn't it. Like "we'll have our own Erasmus scheme".

I hear that all pollution will now instinctively know that WE are now a SOVEREIGN and INPENDEPENDENT NATION on a journey to PROSPER MIGHTILY and will stop at OUR border.

When I've seen this (the so-called GHIC) mentioned in places, there is sometimes a small print / sotto voce "travellers should still expect to have to buy travel insurance for full cover", but I expect a lot of people won't get that far into the detail and will end up waving these bits of cardboard in the faces of bewildered medical staff worldwide, while speaking louder and more slowly in English, thinking they are entitled to free medical care everywhere.

Perhaps, once the pieces of cardboard are actually available.

There's a kind of fascinating horror to this isn't there. Like rubbernecking at a car crash.

We won't know the real cost of all this for about another ten years, I'd say.

Ten years is a long time to be staring at burning wreckage .

I love that the Global HIC is not going to be "global". Some people are going to misinterpret the name "global" as meaning "global" rather than "not global" and come to the US thinking they're covered and leave with a fucking massive medical bill, aren't they?

Global means Global. If those chiselling foreigners refuse to recognise our mandate then that's their look-out.

Indeed, it even covers fewer countries than EHIC.

I can guarantee you that consular officials are seriously dreading this, as it will make their lives even more miserable.
