The chastened embarrassed look for a few split second is a joy to behold, and then he gets back on his rehearsed script script

The 87 quid reference was a nice touch.

Would have been nicer if he was not given a national platform by RTE at all though.

Well, quite. A burning bag of shite only burns with oxygen.

Like Trump, and Johnson he's a walking caricature. Political cartoonists have never had it so good.

Hostile environments, if there is indeed one, are only allowed to work with non English speaking people and those who are not white. Gammon are exempt despite being pink.

"When asked about expats being forced to sell their homes in Spain, Leon Fernando Del Canto, founder of London-based tax set Del Canto Chambers, told Express.co.uk: "This is a serious issue for those not wanting to become tax residents in Spain and who bought their properties before Brexit."

So pay your fucking taxes, like I do.

Twitter is awash with very similar ones but I think this is the most pertinent.

Ah, but Dean is a good sovereign criminal, not one of those asylum seeker criminal refugees living in a ten bedroom mansion and recieving £1,000 a week benefits and taking Dean's job.

Isn't that a better use of his time though? Rather than have him mouldering in a prison cell?

I am, rather. I'd much prefer people to be out and about doing something useful with a bit of light monitoring of their life* rather than paying to keep them locked up, which I don't think does them any good any way.

*In Dean the Drug Smuggling Trucker's case, for example, the occasional check that Dean wasn't smuggling drugs in his truck is all that's really needed.

Much, much better, indeed. Prison is a terrible and useless thing.

This is about Turkey but in a few years time will be the same for the UK. I've lived this twice now.

On the day that a poll found 51% support in NI for the Protocol (41% opposed), and just 4% trust in Westminster, the latter decides to establish a committee preparing to trigger Article 16.

Those with some time on their hands might be interested in this (very) long form article by former British Ambassador to Georgia, and latterly Brexit Counselor at BE Washington, Alex Hall-Hall.
Although primarily an essay contextualising her decision fo resign from the role (and the FCO) in 2019, it goes into some fascinating detail on the wider “ethical” dilemmas faced on occasion by Civil Servants dealing with outright government lies. The article is good on the inner circle of Trump, too.

In December 2019, Alexandra Hall Hall resigned from her post as Brexit counselor at the British Embassy in Washington, DC. In this article, she writes about how she came to that decision and situates it in a broader discussion of principled resignation, giving examples from individuals who have been faced with the same choice.

It may well speak more strongly to those of us with some experience of such institutions, but I found it very good indeed
