If it's anyone but Trump, they'll want a debate. DeSantis would want one.

I wrote this elsewhere, I think it sums matters up.
A pile of dogshit, moulded into human form and clad in a suit, also known as Joe Manchin, has again delivered for his owners by stating he won't back his own party's efforts to support more funding for climate action, and also any higher taxes on the rich or on corporations
Effectively one man rules American legislation right now, and as ever, it's a man who gives not a fuck for anything but temporarily slaking his insatiable hunger for money from any source, no matter how shitty, in return for his dog like obedience to their requirements.
What a piece of fucking shit he is.

The Democrats would at least get to fight (well, yeah right) a Republican in his seat instead of spending hours of time to bend over backwards and ask him if he approves of what they're doing only for him to tell them to go fuck themselves. The end result would be the same, but at least they'd retain some level of dignity.

There has been few positive whispers about how she's done and plenty of negative.
A friend who's a public defender commented "every DA's office is a combination of people like Harris and a bunch of good ol' boys."
(The implication for Harris being that she's a ladder-climber of no real substance.)

Also while VPs don't have much actual power, they are supposed to play a public role, be that as a straight-up supporter of the president or as a "hatchet man" who can say things that the president might not be able to say without courting greater controversy, the perception of being a policy wonk is also beneficial as there's always the worry of whether they'd be able to handle being thrust into a crisis situation.

Having just returned from a multi-state trip in the US, I can report that an absolutely *staggering* number of companies are trying very hard to hire. Solo Cup is paying $22 an hour for line workers. Every Walmart, every fast food place, every trucking company, every factory or casino you can see from the highway. All with starting wage posted in bold letters. And the incentives are interesting; first week's pay today, paychecks weekly (as opposed to fortnightly or monthly), signing bonuses, on site childcare, etc.
