    Fun facts

Just found out that the country Kiribati, which is approximately co-extensive with what used to be called the Gilbert Islands, is so named because that is the closest rendition, in the sound-set of the Gilbertese language, of the word “Gilberts”.

Something which is slighty easier to conceptualise when you know that "Kiribati" is pronounced "kiribas/kiribis"

Which also helps you understand why Kiritimati in Kiribati is (the other) Christmas Island.

Gold weighs 20 times as much as water. So a gold bar the size of a 330ml can of coke would weigh about 7kg, the same as an Olympic shot put.

If every atom in an orange was the size of an orange, the orange would be the size of the Earth.

                          You what?

Ooh, yes: there's a bit of the Scheldt estuary just north of Antwerp which is separated from the main Belgian coast by a lump of the Netherlands. Is that it? Well, colour me amazed.

But are registered magicians allowed to drive their rabbits over the Story Bridge, Brisbane?
