I clearly remember one we had in infants school which dated from before the 1974 local government re-organisation (which was still quite recent at the time), so it still had Cumberland, Westmorland, the Ridings etc. The Rutland piece must have been tiny, but I'm sure it got a mention (it might have been thrown in with another though).

California has a state soil, I've just learned.
Enough of this, or I'll not get anything done today.

            And Arizona.

I drew Arizona out of a hat to write a report on in the 5th grade.

I feel like we discussed this before.

We've definitely discussed boli ties before.

The large number of US states with vowels at both the beginning and the end of their names has recently been pointed out to me.

Sorry, badly explained. I mean how many US states that begin with a vowel also end with one. 8/12 in fact.

Also, 24 states with a name beginning with a consonant end with a vowel, though I may have miscounted.

Thus the well known lame children's riddle

What is low at both ends and high in the middle?

In this episode of Taskmaster (s10 e5) the contestants only had to name 20 American states. The results will make you feel comparatively proud of yourselves - or worried about the British education system.

The relevant section begins around 19:30.
