It's in absolute no-man's land between Bonn, Trier, Koblenz, and Belgium.

The one in Nuernberg is known as the Norisring. There's an annual event there.

For some reason "....and Belgium" has ruined me.

I think I need more sleep.

Well, after Nuremburg I spent a couple of days on the Czech border which, after 30 years of lying low has now regained some of its aura. Walked for miles along it and over it and around it without meeting a single Czech. Its very rural.

Good job too, as properly visiting Czechia would mean 10 days solitary in NL.

I'm now in Jena, in the former DDR. My last "visit" was in 1988 when I drove past thinking about Carl Zeiss Jena, the football team. All I could see was brown smoke belching up over the forest and we had to keep going down the corridor to West Berlin.

32 years later, it's a lovely, lively student town, even on a cold Monday night. My waitress said there are 20,000 students here in a town of 120,000.

The Germans have performed a huge miracle here really. And Thuringia is beautiful.

Thuringia also has even better bratwurst than Nurnberg. Are you on a deliberate bratwurst tour?
