i think that yes Britain was conducting colonial wars-nonetheless I do think we’re moving to uncharted territory. By definition the future is uncharted but the public contempt for the instruments of democracy -as opposed to private machinations seems to me to be of a different kind.

see this for example- it completes a project Thatcher and Blair could only dream of

Here's a clue: they are the party in power - that's how it works, ffs.

It isn't 'programme makers' that are guilty of this perceived 'bias' in any case - they are merely reflecting what is happening on the comedy scene. Which of the UK's (or US's) high-profile comics does this plank imagine are doing right-wing material? I mean, with any sense of relevance and/or belief in being taken seriously (as indeed it were)?

But Davie's a Tory, isn't he? A very hurt and not very woke one.

Then again, perhaps I've been imagining the situation all along and this is merely my own 'bias' showing through. Okay, so find me a good right-wing comic - I mean, at the same skill-level as those 'lefties' currently holding court - and I'll see whether I laugh at said act.

Anyone who listens to the News Quiz (which is basically my only connection to the BBCs comedy output these days), will be aware that for years they have been very careful to aim barbs at both the Tories and Labour (though more specifically Jeremy Corbyn in the case of the latter). It's tedious bothsides twattery, but it;s definitely a thing and has been for some time. What else does this extremist want? No criticism of the government at all? Welcome to Belarus

Oh look the former Conservative activist who is now director general of the BBC has responded to an incident entirely manufactured by the right and the Murdoch press and exploited by fascists used it to move the organisation more explicitly to the right

Yes, true - but that's more about good comics being able to call out either side when it f***s up.

Corbyn did plenty of that, for sure, but it should be pretty apparent to anyone that it's more than likely that the party in power is going to cop the flak. (Even if he cannot admit it openly, Davie should at least be 'aware' that the current incumbent have given the comedy world more than their share of ammo lately. If not, then he's out of his depth - which he may well be anyway.)

Is Priti looking extra-Caucasian on her Twitter profile pic.

Reminds me of Nikki Haley and the infamous Bobby Jindal pic.

I've noticed that on Twitter the emergent fash are pitching "patriotism" against "wokeness".

                                    What a development.

Trying to imagine any other European nation actually putting up with this.

(Was going to put 'major European nation' but, you know...)

The destruction of the Civil Service and its replacement with political appointments proceeds as planned.

The BBC bit is, not so much the reneging on international agreements that the government itself negotiated

Orban is forever trying to weasel out of international agreements he signed (especially within the EU).
