That would seem to be a pretty clear case of contempt given my understanding of the standard in England.

I was initially surprised to see that she had acknowledged that the police murder people, but soon disappointed in that respect.

Yes, that was how I read the sentence initially, and thought it somewhat out of character.

I'm sure the Board of Deputies of British Jews will condemn this racism.

Especially given that Roma were murdered alongside Jews in the death camps.

                She is absolutely contemptible.

If you want my stronger (more honest) opinion of her then I'll be happy to share by PM.

In proportionately greater numbers. The Porajmos is the forgotten holocaust.

That's the kind of madness that only a Tory Minister could dream up. Put asylum seekers in a hostel in Maidstone? No, waste millions of taxpayers' money to fly them 4,000 miles to a tropical island and house them there simply so you can say 'no asylum seekers remain in the mainland UK'. People - some of whom, I have to believe, are otherwise sane - vote for this.

actually David Blunkett proposed something quite similar

When Blunkett was Home Secretary, he proposed putting dog-style chips in asylum seekers, seeing how it was great for identifying dogs. The civil servants looked at each other nervously before one of them nervously piped up that a policy made for dogs wasn't a very good guide because a dog was a dog, and asylum seekers were human beings. Blunkett thought for a moment, then conceded that this was true and it perhaps wasn't a good idea after all.

Ah, people are drawing a distinction between Blair's New Labour in power and a "Tory" government. To be clear, I didn't.

of all the reasons to criticise the home office spending ?100k on PPE* from a relatively unorthodox supplier in march/april last year isn't really one of them.

*presumably, given most of the other services beauticians would have run wouldn't have been open.

Why would the Home Office buy ?100k of "PPE" on a credit card?

because the government had been caught massively off guard by the escalating pandemic and had failed to get a central procurement strategy in place so everyone was basically buying as much ppe as they could from wherever they could get it?

idk it's much more plausible than everyone in the home office got their brows threaded during the first two months of lockdown.

There are still the cupcakes, the dietician and the Primark bill.

All in all, it needs scrutiny.
